Workshop Objectives:
This workshop aims to equip HR Professionals and Line Managers (e.g. Operations Managers/ Executives) from the Environmental Services (ES) enterprises with important skill-sets to offer one-on-one career guidance to their identified talents.

Addressing the challenges faced by the ES industry in attracting and retaining local talent requires a multifaceted approach that focuses on reshaping the industry’s image, enhancing career development opportunities, and fostering a sense of professional pride. Structured career planning and discussions are therefore extremely crucial to help engage and retain existing staff, especially talents who will be the future leaders to bring the business forward.
By attending this training, participants will gain valuable insights to the pivotal role career planning plays in boosting employee morale, enhancing job satisfaction and reducing turnover rates. Participants will be equipped with the essential skills to carry out a career conversation with their talents effectively to achieve these desired outcomes.

Mr William Thien is a consultant and trainer with over 20 years of experience. He is a certified Practicing Management Consultant (PMC), Certified Productivity Consultant (CPC) and a Certified Workplace Learning Specialist (CWLS). He is an Associate Consultant with the Singapore Productivity Centre as well as the Centre for Learning and Performance of the Institute for Adult Learning (IAL).
He has been a member of the Institute of Management Consultants (Singapore) and the Singapore Productivity Association.
William holds a degree in Master of Arts in Instructional Design and Technology (MAIDT) from the Nanyang Technological University as well as a Bachelor of Science (Econs) (Hons) in Management Studies, from the University of London.
Professionally, he holds a Graduate Diploma in Personnel Management from the Singapore Institute of Management and has also completed the Advance Certificate in Training and Assessment (ACTA) from the Institute for Adult Learning (IAL).
Other than his professional work, William volunteers as a member of the HR Committee at St Luke’s Hospital. He is a Specialist Adult Education (SAE) with IAL and has been the Chairman of the Special Interest Group (Coaching and Mentoring) at the Adults Education Network on a volunteer basis.
William has worked in the shipbuilding, engineering as well as the hotel industries. During this period of work, he carried a wide variety of portfolios, including recruitment & selection, compensation & benefits, performance management, employee industrial relations and training & development. He was also the Personnel Manager of Mandarin Hotel, a five-star service establishment with over 1200 employees.
As a consultant, his work reflects his wide and in-depth hands-on experience in human resource management. He leads a team of consultants to provide services to several organisations. He is a pre-qualified consultant for the Innovation and Capability Voucher (ICV) scheme administered by SPRING Singapore. He has also worked with Singapore National Employers’ Federation (SNEF) and various SME Centres as associate consultant to extend his consultancy services.

HR professionals and operations managers from Environmental Services companies (in particularly those from the cleaning and waste management sub-sectors)
Methodology
Participants will be guided through the workshop topics with a combination of short lectures, reflection and elicitation of prior experiences at work to connect with the topics presented, group discussions and exercises, and role plays for skills practices
Course Completion Requirement
(i) End of Workshop
Participants will need to complete and submit a Career Development Plan (guided by facilitator) at the end of the workshop
(ii) 1 Month after Workshop
Participants are expected to pilot the career development planning discussions with at least 2 reportees who will be expected to create their individual CDP.
WSG will follow up with an online survey pertaining to their experiences being guided in career planning discussion.
