An Early Childhood (EC) or an Early Intervention (EI) educator plays a crucial role in shaping young minds and creating a positive learning environment. However, this role can be demanding – mentally, emotionally and physically. That’s why it is essential to recognise the importance of resilience and self-care for the profession.
Resilience and self-care are fundamental pillars that support the well-being and effectiveness of an educator. If an educator is not aware or equipped with such important mindset, knowledge and skills, emotional exhaustion, stress and burnout can quickly set in, impacting her own passion for teaching, as well as affecting the children under her care.
Learning to be resilient and self-care techniques can have a positive ripple effect in various ways, from (i) improving own overall quality of life,
(ii) being a role model and teaching children valuable life skills to manage stress, cope with challenges and prioritise their week-being, to
(iii) sustaining own passion for teaching over the long term.
This workshop will help learners to appreciate the importance of self-care and well-being, which impacts both their personal and professional lives. Learners will acquire useful ideas and techniques, such as mindfulness, relaxation exercises, reframing techniques, etc, to manage their feelings, thoughts, stress and physical health. Learners will also gain personal effectiveness skill-sets, such as establishing goal clarity, time management, assertiveness skills, etc which are useful in managing work and people effectively, thereby decreasing the likelihood of stress, emotional and mental strain from work.
Objectives
Upon completion of the course, the learner will be able to:
- Take practical action steps to maintain health and well-being
