Counselling Skills in the Workplace

Employees are valuable assets for a company. However, they face a variety of workplace problems from relationship issues with peers or superiors to challenges in dealing with work and maintaining work-life balance. Such problems can lead to frustrations that will affect motivation, result in negative performance, conflicts and impact workplace harmony.

Identifying negative behaviours and poor performance is important for preventing counter-productive consequences; demotivated employees may resign and behavioural issues may escalate. Managers, executives, team leaders and supervisors play an important role in dealing with such situations to maintain employee performance, motivation and engagement levels.

Counselling skills are essential for maintaining optimum performance, and this entails identifying causes of issues, providing counsel and advice for improvement and guiding the employee through the process of improving behaviour or performance. This course focuses on the essentials of counselling including identifying root causes and issues, developing the appropriate counselling approach, and the process and techniques for effective counselling.
